Unit 4 Acrylics

Master: Marc Chagal

Current: Noemi Safir

My inspiration for this piece was to do something that was out of my comfort zone. I wanted to challenge myself which I did throughout the whole sketching and painting process. Portraits in general are very challenging for me because of trying to get those proportions just right. I also have a hard time with shading parts of the human face so I wanted to do something abstract to help a little with that. I chose these Chagal ad my master because of the colors in his paintings. I like his color combination and the way he used it for odd places in the paintings. I chose Safir as my current because of her tales with abstract portraits. I tries to see how she used colors to add definition to the faces.

What went well: I think the easiest thing for me was drawing out the sketch and mixing the colors or go together well for the background and lower part of the face. The paint for the background was still showing the canvas so i mad swirls with the burst to give it more of an abstract look.

What Were the Struggles: This piece I think was the most challenging out of the first 3 unit projects but I am proud for sticking through it. I think one of the biggest issues was figuring out where to put the colors to give more definition to the face. I also added too much grey to the hijab so i tried to fix it up but you can definitely see the struggle in my work. If I could do anything different I would have chosen more brown tones for the face and the eyebrows, but it was a learning experience.
