Master: Hiroshi Yoshida
Current: Marine Loup
I decided to choose the option of cultural art and I picked Japanese cultural art. I like many of the pieces that have water color and line work which I decided to do also. I chose Yoshida as my master artist because of his amazing use of water color and details. I chose Loup as my current artist because of her also watercolor work that also has line art over it. I also added a quote in a corner because when researching, I noticed many have written things in the corner. Mine is “perception of life in the key to happiness.”
What went well:
My favorite part doing this piece was the line art and layering of water color. Overall I enjoyed the whole process for this since I have worked with water color before. In other pieces, I’ve notices very loose line work so I tried to mimic the same. Overall, this was a very enjoyable piece.
The Struggles:
I think the hardest issue I had dealing with this piece, is how many items were in the art and writing the quote. Many Japanese inspired pieces have very little water color and line work. Many historical pieces are only flowers so I think it might have been overpowering for all the line art in the trees especially. I also had an issue with writing the quote. I don’t know much Japanese or the correct way it is written so I used the most reliable translator I could use and the way it was written in other art pieces.
